Dangers in the Silence

This past week the world has now had to pay attention once again to North Korea. I was wondering when these fun loving communists were going to start up with thier general nonsense again? Things have just been too quiet from this non-western world leader/nut case ego maniac, Kim Jong. After a relative period of quiet, in which the world has once again been lulled into a false sense of security, the NK-commies are up to no good once again by threatening to fuel and launch a new long range missle. The NKs are clearly demonstrating a technology development path which gives it a basis for negotiations on the world stage with the underlying tone of violent threat. How is it possible that world nations can act shocked and surprised at these new developments?

In my mind at least the NKs are predictable. They consistantly lie to the world, demand recognition and rights while taking actions that indicate vailed threats to world peace. But the west and its behavior really has no excuse. We have fought communism, facism and dictators. We know how these leaders and governments operate. Moreover, we know what they inevitably do. They generate conflict, start wars, oppress the rights of the common man while hoarding power and wealth for themselves. We as part of western society know this. How can there be surprise at what the North Koreans are doing now?

Emphasizing my point, look at the tack that Iran has taken recently. There is now a proposal on the table from Europe and the U.S. with repect to its nuclear program. What was Iran's repsonse? We will get back to you in August, thanks. The continued beauty of Iran's strategy is to delay, lie, backtrack, appear to want to negotiate then change their mind while they continue with a nuclear development program that is steaming ahead full throttle. They have learned the west has no stomach for conflict and are playing to that brilliantly.

It is unfortunate that the Iraqi conflict does not have the overwhelming support that it deserves. It detracts from President Bush's ability to wage the global war on terrorism and limits his abilities with other problem areas around the world. Europeans will continue to appease and appease, forever living in this dreamworld of understanding the Islamic facist or the oppresive communist. Moreover, my unfortunate prediction is that post-2008 after the Bush presidency, the war on terrorism will faulter if a democrat is elected to the white house. Without the U.S. backing the fight, the global landscape is going to get a bit scary.

In the end, I am not necessarily proposing that doomsday is inevitable. The signs are there for the west to recognize, wake up, and take action. The Islamo-facist commi regimes have, like a dog, smelled our fear and pounced all over it. It is now up to us to roll up a newspaper and smack that dog on the nose over and over again until they stop shitting in our living room. When these regimes go silent, it is those times that I fear the most.
